This quatrain by Omar Khayyam says: “No one has solved the riddle of death, No one has stepped beyond its circle. From the novice to the master I have seen Powerlessness is in the hand of everyone born.” In this verse, Khayyam speaks about the ultimate limit of human knowledge and control, death. He observes that no matter how wise, learned, or powerful we become, the mystery of mortality remains untouched. All human beings, from the beginner to the sage, live within the same circle, bound by the same fate. No one has taken even a single step beyond it. Through this quatrain, Khayyam reminds us of our shared condition, our vulnerability. But instead of despair, he suggests humility: Recognizing our limits may be the first true wisdom. It’s a quiet reflection, that before the vastness of existence, we are all equal, and perhaps that very awareness is what makes life meaningful.
